in which there is yet another inauguration post
I won’t go on for too long about how freaking amazing today was. We all stopped working and watched Barack Obama take his oath and give his speech today. And I was captivated. Captivated. I could actually feel all the confidence in our country that I have lost over the past few years rushing back. I have so much hope and so much joy for the upcoming four years. In case you missed it, enjoy:
politics don’t define me
I’ve never been extremely into politics. I know the basics and I know how I feel about major issues.
However, politics do not define who I am as a person. The person I vote for is not a perfect reflection of who I am. There is so much more to me than the politics I believe in and the person I agree with the most.
A few nights ago, I went out with a bunch of people, most of whom I had never met before. I was trying to make conversation with a few of the guys that I didn’t know, but they wouldn’t get beyond who I was voting for. I told them it was personal, and that they didn’t need to know.
The next sentences out of one of their mouths absolutely disgusted me:
But I can tell everything about you by who you are voting for. I’ll know absolutely everything about you if you tell me who you are voting for.
I could not believe it. To think that who I’m voting for defines everything about me… it’s an appalling concept.
